Gateway Laptop Parts – Replacing Your Laptop’s Motherboard

A motherboard is one of the most essential laptop parts. Basically, motherboards allow your computer’s hardware to work with each other. If your motherboard stops working, many other parts in your laptop will also stop working. Although some motherboards are prone to malfunctions now and then, the most likely cause of motherboard failure is a nonstandard power adapter.

You will need to have a Phillips head screwdriver and your Gateway laptop parts on hand before you start. You should be aware that opening your laptop case will void your warranty in most cases. You should only consider doing so if your warranty has already expired. Before opening the case, make sure you turn your computer off. Next, flip your laptop over and push the battery release button. Remove the battery before you continue, then use the screwdriver to take out all screws on the bottom of the case.

Next, remove the plastic that covers the memory module, DVD drive, and hard drive. After removing the plastic cover, carefully remove the components mentioned above. You will then need to remove the plastic strip found under the LCD screen. You might need to wiggle the screwdriver around before you can get the strip to come off. After removing the strip, you will need to unscrew and remove the keyboard. Make sure to unplug the motherboard cable! After removing the keyboard, locate and remove the network card from the left side of the motherboard. Remember to keep track of all your Gateway laptop parts as you remove them!

You will need to unplug the processor fan before you can proceed. After unplugging the fan, you’ll be able to remove both the fan and the heat sink. Next, you will need to remove the processor by lifting the plastic arm that holds it in place. The only thing holding the motherboard in place at this point will be a few screws. Take out the screws, and then remove the motherboard. You can now set the new motherboard in the case. All you need to do at this point is replace and reconnect all of your Gateway laptop parts.
